2023 Undergraduate Fellowship on Innovation in Nuclear Microreactor Monitoring

The “Ex core Microreactor Monitoring (EM 2 for Autonomous Operation” project that Prof. Di Fulvio leads is funded by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and aims to develop new concepts of integrated microreactor monitoring that enable their unattended and reliable operation over their lifetime.

We seek motivated undergraduate students from University of Illinois-Chicago for a summer internship on this topic.

Congratulations to Ming Fang and Jianxin Zhou. Ming Fang is the recipient of the 2022 J. D. Williams Student Paper Award (2nd place) at the INMM meeting and Jianxin Zhou the Best Graduate Presentation (Radiation Measurements topic) at the ANS Student Conference! Ming presented his work on “Boron Coated Straw-based Neutron Multiplicity Counter for Neutron Interrogation of TRISO Fueled Pebbles”, and Matthew presented the work entitled “Characterization of Shielded Special Nuclear Materials through Neutron Spectroscopy”.
